The Cathedral
One of Girona 's grandest churches, the cathedral was built between the 11 th and 17 th centuries AD. The church's structure integrates a number of architectural styles that were built at various points in history. The features of the original Roman building are preserved, such as a cloister and tower of Charlemagne. The nave of the church is the widest arched span in the whole world.

Monastery of Saint Pere de Galligants and Chapel of Sant Nicolau
This is an excellent example of Lombard-style Romanesque buildings from the 12 th century AD. The monastery was occupied by the Benedictine order and its sheer size and remarkably interesting cloister make it one of the most outstanding specimens of Catalan Romanesque architecture. Today, the monastery houses Girona 's Museum of Archaeology.

Arab Baths
This is a structure that houses ancient facilities that were used to public bathing. The name is a misnomer; the whole building is actually Romanesque in design and architecture, inspired by the Roman public baths of old. There are three rooms inside: the frigidarium or cold water room, the caldarium or hot water room, and the tepidarium or lukewarm water room. The frigidarium in this building is of particular interest for its design and layout. This thermae is so-called because the interior does exhibit some Muslim architectural features, bearing some similarity to Arab baths.


Cases de l'Onyar
These are stone houses along the river Onyar that were built in the Middle Ages. The porticoed facades, steep and narrow alleys, and brightly colored stone houses all contribute to make the houses of the Onyar one of the most unique and spectacular sights in Girona .

Jewish Quarter, or the Call
The Jewish neighborhood in the Jewish Quarter is the best preserved in all of Catalonia and certainly the most remarkable in Spain. The narrow and winding alleyways and lanes snake around medieval stone buildings that once housed the Jewish community in Girona . The Jews' influence and teachings were far-reaching throughout Europe.

Former Collegiate Church of Sant Feliu
This is an ancient building, dating back to the earliest ages of Christianity when the Romans arrived in Spain. The Romanesque building is well-preserved, with Gothic naves and structures and a baroque facade having been added in the years following the original building's construction. The genuine Romanesque interior features a Gothic nave. Inside the Church, eight extraordinarily well-preserved Roman and early Christian sepulchres can be found and are the greatest attraction to the place.


Rambla de la Llibertat (La Rambla)
This is one of the liveliest and best-known streets of the city of Girona . It has been used as a marketplace since the middle ages, and very little has changed through the centuries. Today, it is the center of shopping and business in Girona .

Sant Dom
This is the first ever building purely of Gothic construction that was built in Girona . The Gothic facades exhibit a stern countenance. Today, the building houses the faculty of humanities of the University of Girona .

The Post Office Building
A 20 th century building to be found in the newer part of the city, at the Pla de la Independ the Post Office building is neoclassical in style. Containing works by the sculptor Frederic Marés, the edifice is an model of noucentista (nineteen hundreds) monumentalist architecture.

Former Convent de la Merc Of the 15th to 17th centuries, the oldest preserved portion is the church, of Gothic style with double-pitch roof laid on diaphragmatic arches.


Convent of Sant Josep Dating back to the 16 th century, the Convent of Sant Josep was built for the Barefoot Carmelites. Its portico maintains a vertical layout of three columns crowned by a pediment. Recently, it has been refurbished to accommodate the History Archives.


City House
This 15th to 20th century building houses the Town Hall and has repeatedly been altered. From its original medieval structure there remains the arched doorway leading to the patio, and an entry to the Meeting Chambers. The entrance to the Municipal Theatre is found at the posterior of the courtyard.
Pastors House
This was, in earlier times, the Sobreportes school (14th century) and seminary (16th century). Over the last three centuries, the building has gone through significant modifications and restorations. Today, the edifice is an impressive sight to see, a fine example of a sizeable house built around an inner courtyard.
Capuchins Convent
This 18th century edifice, later used as a secondary school, now houses the City History Museum and the Historical Archives.

Episcopal Palace
A multifaceted construction of the 12th to 18th centuries, it is the fruit of the overlaying of different architectural and artistic styles. At present, the building houses the Art Museum. The Museu d'Art is a good mix of Catalan Gothic, Romanesque, and modern art. Cost is EUR2. Open: Tues. - Sat. 10-7, Sun. 10-1.

Gironella Tower and ramparts
The Gironella Tower dates back to the 14th century, and is the highest point of the walled Roman precinct, visible from other parts of the city. Throughout history, the edifice has been rebuilt many times, up until the final siege of the French. A large part of the east and south sectors of the ramparts is reachable, and you can walk on them following the path around, from which a fantastic panoramic view of Girona city can be enjoyed.


Former University (the This 16th century, former General Study or University fa this is one of Girona city's small number of Renaissance buildings, although the doorway arch is a model of Gothic style.



Agullana Palace
A noble house that goes back to the 14th - 17th centuries which, together with the steps and frontage of Sant Martí Sacosta, are one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in Girona .

Forn House This is a 16 th century Noble house converted into seat of the Presidency of the Local Government. It is an example of the survival of Gothic style into the 16 th century, having preserved the original structure of its fa with its original tracery windows.
Fontana d'Or Of the 12th, 14 th and 15 th centuries, the Fontana d'Or is a Romanesque non- religious building. It has an ambulacrum on the ground floor and is a fine illustration of what the noble houses of the city were like; it s the only one in the area, actually.
